IEP Goals: One - Cody has been learning to independently request an activity, where all words in the sentence are clearly understood, a minimum of 3 times a day. Goal Two -Cody has been learning to return the whiteboard markers to the pencil case, the cars to the bin and other classroom resources back to where they belong, once a day.

End of year review:
Goal one:

Cody is speaking more clearly now and it is easy to understand what he is saying.  When he is upset or excited his words will run together, he just requires a gentle reminder to speak slowly so that we can understand him.
Goal two:
We only occasionally check Cody’s bag now.  He has not taken anything from the class in the past few weeks.  We will still ask Cody if he has anything in his bag that belongs to the class and he is given the opportunity to return the item.  The only thing that Cody has taken recently is another students swimming goggles but he returned them the next day and apologized.

Cody is learning to use more high frequency words in his writing

Cody is taking part in a making words session at literacy time.  He is writing a range of "ake" words that are being modelled by the teacher.  Cody tries really hard during these sessions and this is being reflected in his writing book.  We will continue to provide opportunities for Cody to practice writing high frequency words in a non threatening environment.

Cody has been learning to use some comparative measurement language to describe the ordering or comparing of objects and events e.g. big, bigger, biggest , long, longer, longest, heavy, heavier, heaviest, tall, taller, tallest

Cody is consistently able to identify the biggest from the smallest, the longest and the shortest, the heaviest and lightest.  Great work Cody!  We will still do activities based on this concept each term so that this is reinforced for Cody.

Cody is learning to look at the pictures so that he knows what the story is about

Cody is listening to his buddy from Room 10 read him a story which happens every Tuesday and Thursday,  When she finishes her story, Cody then reads his story to her.  Cody enjoys having a buddy to read to.  I like the way you are looking at the pictures  for information Cody.

Cody is learning to use more high frequency words in his writing

Cody is playing a game of word bingo where he has to look at the word I call out and see if he has one on his board.  This practice will help Cody to learn new high frequency words and reinforce the ones he already knows.  When he becomes confident I am sure we will see them being used in his writing.

Cody is learning to share and take turns, following rules that are set at the beginning of the game

Cody is listening to the full instruction  before he begins his game.  It was decided that Hine and Cody were playing snap based on colour of the card and not the shape. We will continue to provide opportunities for Cody to play supervised games so that he learns how to take turns.

Cody is learning to look at the pictures to know what the story is about

Cody tries really hard during reading time.  He needs a gentle reminder to look at the pictures of a simple text to get cues so that he knows what the story is about.  Keep up the good work Cody!  We will continue to work on this goal with Cody and provide a range of text so that he is able to practice doing this.

Numeracy

Cody is continuing to explore our new Numicon Maths resource. The Numicon resource shows children what entire groups of numbers look like in a pattern form. Today Cody played a game where he spun a dial and matched the picture the dial landed on with the appropriate shape. He also practiced naming the pattern piece with the appropriate numeral. As Cody becomes more familiar with the shapes he will be using them to help him skip count in 2s and recall addition doubles to 10.

Cody is learning to use some comparative measurement language to describe the ordering or comparing of objects and events e.g. big, bigger, biggest , long, longer, longest, heavy, heavier, heaviest, tall, taller, tallest

During our maths lesson we were putting cars down a tube, race tunnel, to see whose vehicle traveled the longest distance with one push.  We discussed whose went the shortest distance and whose traveled the same distance.  Once a week we do an activity that requires the use of comparative language.  In week one each of the students were given a length of string and had to put in in order from the longest to the shortest.   And in week two we put a range of containers in order from the smallest to the biggest.  Throughout the term Cody will be given the opportunity to practice using comparative language.

Topic Cody is learning to recognize similarities and differences between a range of mini beasts and to sort based on given criteria.

During week one we learned about worms.  Where they live, what they eat and what eats them.  Cody made lots of salt dough worms for our Mural.    Cody is really enjoying this topic.  He especially enjoyed making a worm garden  We used chocolate ice cream for the dirt, flake for the bark, Oreo's for the debris, chocolate logs for the logs, spearmint leaves for the leaves, we had mushrooms too.  And we had jelly worms that had been set in straws for our worms.  It was lots of fun!

Cody is learning to draw a square, oval and kite accurately

Cody is able to draw a rectangle, circle and triangle accurately.  He even tried to draw a cone.  Cody is nearly there with his square, we will continue to teach him that a square has the same size sides.  During writing time Cody is practicing drawing many shapes in his pictures that he writes about.  We will continue to model drawing these shapes to Cody.  Cody will continue working on this goal next term.

Cody is learning to listen and follow an instruction that is given using three key words, signs or symbols.

Cody enjoyed watching the big turtle when he visited the Aquarium this week.  He is trying really hard to listen to instructions but finds it a bit difficult when there is lots to see or lots going on around him.

Cody is learning to independently request an activity, where all words in the sentence are clearly understood

Cody wants to watch a segment of Toy Story on the ipad, so he came up to me and said "Toy story".  I then model a complete sentence for Cody to repeat.  Cody will say the key words then please and or thank you.  We will continue to model complete sentences for Cody.

Cody is learning patterns within 5

Cody has been learning that 5+0=5, 0+5=5, 5-0=5, 5-5=0.  This week Cody has been learning that 4+1=5, 1+4=5, 5-4=1, 5-1=4.  Next week Cody will be learning that 3+2=5, 2+3=5, 5-3=2, 5-2=3.  I am hoping that by breaking down these family of facts and presenting each combination in separate weeks will help Cody remember.  Each week we go over what we have done the previous week.  Cody will continue to do activities that help reinforce this learning.

Cody is learning to use a picture to generate an idea to write about

Cody sat down with me during a reading session and was keen to draw a car like the one in the story.  He then proceeded to write a sentence using the text in the story for the word car.  Great work Cody!
Cody will continue to have one one time writing and continue to have opportunities to write independently.

Cody is learning to look at the illustration to understand the words in the story

Cody is reading an unfamiliar story and with a reminder he is looking at the pictures to help him work out what the story is about.  He needs to remember to point to each of the words as he says them.  We will work on this goal with Cody and give him lots of practice throughout each school week.  A book will be sent home with Cody four times a week so that he can also practice at home too.

Cody is learning to participate in small group work or play with minimun support

Cody is learning to play with his peers without it resulting in conflict, due to differing personalities and them wanting to play with the same toy or object.  During the day there are opportunities for Cody to play with his peers with guidance from adults.  He is learning to turn take, share, problem solve and use his words.  This will be an ongoing goal for the rest of the year as there is a lot involved with having to get along with your peers.
